Explora MSC
Elemental is a series of 10 artworks on canvas 1600 x 1600 mm panels created for the Observatory Lounge deck 7 on board the new ocean liner Explora. Using a combination of materials, hand gilded with schlag gold leaf to form a metallic ground upon a deeply textural ground of swirls and undulations. Surface patination is created through a chemical reaction that occurs when an aqueous solution of copper sulphate comes into contact with the surface metallisation. Ferrous oxide is brushed upon the surface of encircled scrambled motifs developing as primitive darks upon the surface, finished with a UV varnish for sheen and protection.
